High End Fashion at Bargain Prices*
This year, I’m making a real effort to shop more sustainably by buying from ethical businesses, shopping second hand or investing in quality pieces that will last for years. We’ve become obsessed with fast fashion which, although seemingly cheaper, is of poor quality and only worn for one season before we move on to the next trend. I was so excited when the lovely folks at Socialight offered a collaboration with Village Green Boutique – pre-loved, high quality clothes? Yes please.
On Friday, I paid them a visit to have a browse and dress-up session. Village Green sells pre-loved designer and high end high street pieces and was opened by Philippa Carey in October 2014, with help from her mother, Chris. The family-run feel of the shop was emphasised by the warm and friendly welcome I received when I arrived – something that every customer who popped in during my visit also experienced.
Philippa’s inspiration for Village Green came from her experience of hosting clothes swap parties for charity. Her passion for designer fashion and style is instantly apparent when talking to her and reiterated by the Chanel quote decals that adorn the shop walls!
I was looked after by the lovely Hannah and Philippa and given a gorgeous Chanel dress, Chanel bag and beautiful Christian Louboutin heels to try on and strike some poses in. I was very impressed by the attentiveness of both Philippa and Hannah throughout my visit – every customer who walked through the door was enthusiastically greeted and given personal recommendations. After watching so many other women browsing, I couldn’t resist having a peruse myself! I picked up a black and white polka dot midi skirt, originally from Whistles for an absolute steal at £20 (original price was £40, but I was very kindly given a £20 voucher).
I had such a lovely time and can’t believe I’ve never visited them before! I highly recommend you pop in for a browse, although I can’t promise you won’t come away with significantly less money than when you arrived!
